NEWS
In December, I as over in Zagreb, Croatia working with Davorin Tomsic, the editor and the two sound engineers, Vjeran Salamon and Boris Wagner, struggling to finsih the final sound mix on KUWJ. I had been working with Davorin since 2004 and we had been editing the movie between New York and Croatia. It seemed that everything was taking forever to complete, not only because of the time zone differences, but also because we were trying to do something different and there were no road maps to guide us, only our respective talents and my twenty five plus years experience working in the film business.

The Croatian team was fantastic. They wrote music, they played music, they rewrote music that we already had, they created new and wonderful sound effects, even folly effects on top of our folly effects. I came home before the end of the year exhausted but happy. Davorin stayed behind in Zagreb to oversee the re-mastering of the picture by Mario Delic and by January 2007, I had the master back in NYC. We had a private screening at the Anthology Film Archives on March 20 to a packed house (190 seats) and then we were off to Cannes for our European Premier in the Short Film Corner where we had two screenings, both well received.

At Cannes I handed out over 100 DVDs and flyers to directors, producers, actors, distributers, and marketers. One of the most inspirational people I heard speak, and who I did a pitch for on ShortsTV, France, was Carter Pilcher of Shortsinternational. He buys short movies to be shown on television as well as to be downloaded to i Tunes. A very interesting guy and someone we hope to do business with in the future. I met the funny, eccentric producer/ director Melissa Balin and we chatted about who we know in common in LA, Hal Linden. I ran into Ken Burns after the screening of his fabulous series on WWII called "The War" and we discussed the sound effects which were awesome. He's great and you have to see his work with a great sound system. That goes for KUWJ too, we spent weeks and days making a good sound track and it should be played in a venue with a good sound system.

In the competition, I loved, "Alexandra" by Alexander Sokurov about the aftermath of war and the toll on our ability to be human. I also saw, "Bosnia Diaries' by Joaquim Sapinho which I found very sad and moving. Also, "The Edge Of Heaven" by Fathih Akin, a great new movie with many twists. And many other great people and great films.
